Lead CT Technologist

Under the supervision of the Radiology Manager and according to established policies and procedures, coordinates the activities of the Computerized Tomography (CT) section of the Radiology Imaging Department and its technologists. Functions as a lead resource person in providing technical guidance and instruction necessary for the efficient operation of the unit and patient care. Works with service personnel to assure equipment is maintained to provide quality imaging. Responsible for QA/QC and appropriate record keeping to meet ACR requirements. Maintains the daily flow of the department to provide timely quality service to the ordering Physicians. Regularly performs all the functions of a CT Technologist.
Demonstrates competency in performing CT examinations. In doing so, ensures the patient is properly prepared, obtains a relevant patient history and assures proper positioning. Selects proper imaging techniques and follows department protocols in order to provide a complete study. Provides documentation of the exam and provides the Radiologist with images of diagnostic quality for interpretation.
Explains the exam to the patient taking into consideration the physical and emotional needs of the patient. Follows HIPPA standards to maintain patient privacy and disclosure of protected patient information.
Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately and professionally with all types of patients as well as associates. Uses independent judgment in pressure situations to obtain proper outcome.
Reviews radiology requisition for required information to perform examinations. Reviews requisition for discrepancies.
Demonstrates competency in performing IV venipuncture.
Prepares and administers contrast media/medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner following state statutes and department policy. Does so only after demonstrating an understanding of all precautions/contraindications and possible adverse affect associated with contrast administration.
Relies on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely scan the patient to obtain high quality images.
Evaluates and counsels CT personnel regarding work performance.
Shows ability to prioritize duties. Adjusts and revises workload as necessary in view of stat orders, emergencies, walk-ins and fluctuations in patient workload.
Maintains departmental records as required including, service reports, QA and statistical reports.
Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement projects as well as utilizing appropriate cost containment measures.
Maintains equipment in good working order through preventive maintenance plan.
Contacts repair service as necessary.
Maintains a clean work area, prepares the equipment, patient room, and stocks supplies in a timely fashion. Informs appropriate personnel when orders need to be placed.
Remains flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as they become necessary.
To maintain effective working relations and communications with departmental and other Hawthorn Medical personnel as well as various community interactions as appropriate to the position.
Demonstrates competency in all RIS applications. Especially pertaining to patient exam status and tracking. Edit any/all examinations in RIS prior to radiologist dictation.
Follows all PACS workflow procedures for quality, proper identification and completeness of examination requested.
Remains current on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment by reading manuals and technical journals. Participate in educational programs, maintain CEU's that meet State and National guidelines. Attend staff meetings and in-service education programs.
May be called upon to oversee and instruct various personnel and students as assigned and deemed necessary by the Imaging Supervisor
Performs all other duties as directed.
1. Graduate of an approved formal program in Radiologic Technology.
2. 5 years of CT experience preferred.
3. ARRT Certification (Radiography)
4. ARRT Certification (CT)
5. Possess a valid Massachusetts License as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiography)
6. Current BLS certification
1. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
2. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross sectional anatomy.
3. Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code policy.
4. Must be physically capable of lifting linens, supplies, patients while utilizing proper body mechanics.
5. Must be aware of hazards within the department and adhere to safety standards as stated by OSHA.
6. Maintains CPR certification and is capable of initiating emergency life support actions as necessary. Knows the location of all emergency drugs and supplies. Participates in the monitoring of emergency supplies including expiration dates.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
